We are now into the second half of the year and Maple High School continues to evolve as a place where all students can be successful. Our staff works hard to provide a rich and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. At the beginning of the year I encouraged students to keep up with their work and to get involved. I would like to take this moment to once again encourage students to become involved in Maple High School and their community. The events in Haiti have reminded all of us of our need to be involved in and committed to helping others. A number of charities in the Maple area are in need of young people to help out and give back to their community and it offers students the opportunity to complete their required community service hours.
Grade 9’s, Now that a semester is complete I would encourage you reflect on your progress. Did you achieve the marks you wanted to? Were there things you could have done differently? Now is the time to make the change to ensure you have a good foundation for the rest of high school.
Grade 10’s,, This semester is a perfect time to do some research about careers that you may be interested and to start thinking about education options after high school.
Grade 11’s,,I would encourage grade 11 students to take some time second semester to explore their post secondary options and perhaps visit a college or university to see firsthand what programs may be of interest.
Grade 12’s,,Many of you will be receiving your college and university acceptances during second semester. Remember that your acceptance is conditional on you maintaining your current level of achievement.
Parents,, As always no matter what grade your child is in it is important that you stay actively involved in your child’s life. Don’t be afraid to ask questions everyday about what they learned and did at school that day. If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, guidance counsellor, either of the school vice principals or myself.
We all share the same goal, that every Maple student is successful and gains the experience, knowledge and skills to be successful long after they leave Maple High School.
